Cosmetic refurbishment now underway… December, 2016

1 Dec

We have been driving, demonstrating, giving rides in, and enjoying the Baker Electric at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome since it was mechanically put back into service, but the paint job and interior reached a point where they both definitely required some attention.

Aerodrome volunteer Corey St. Pierre is heading up the project to restore the Baker to its original beauty, along with the help of Bob Bard, Stew Sommerville and Kurt Muller ( a few other dedicated Aerodrome volunteers, craftsmen and mechanics). The Aerodrome is thankful to have these generous and talented folks donating their time, but we still have expenses for materials, and are currently seeking donations for those.

In the meantime, Corey and the crew have done a wonderful job of stripping the paint (it was not the original finish…the car had been restored at least one time before), which was a tedious process. They have also removed the interior and are looking to match the fabrics and trim that were used on the original vehicle. Traces of these were found underneath the work that was done during the last restoration. The Baker should be done in time for our 2017 air show season, which will start in June.
